Edmonton host Vancouver at Rogers Place in a Pacific Division game that doubles as a double coaching debut: Mike Babcock takes his first bench as Oilers head coach, and Manny Malhotra does the same for the Canucks. Rogers Place on opening night with McDavid and Draisaitl healthy is a difficult assignment for any visitor, let alone one installing a brand new system on the road. Babcock will want a statement first period, and Edmonton have the individual talent to produce one even before the structure settles. Vancouver should keep it respectable if Malhotra’s defensive detail holds, but the goals are more likely to come from the home bench.
