A 3-0 win over Austria in the Round of 32 was their most comfortable knockout scoreline; since then it’s been a 1-0 win over Portugal (Merino, 90+1′), a 2-1 win over Belgium in the quarter-finals (Ruiz, Merino), and a 2-0 semi-final win over France that was their most complete 90 minutes of the tournament. No Spain player has more than three goals – Mikel Oyarzabal leads the way – but four different players have scored the winning or decisive goal in their last four knockout matches.
That balance is Spain’s biggest asset heading into a final against a team built so heavily around one man. Spain have conceded only a handful of goals all tournament and have not lost a knockout match by more than a single goal all summer.

The semi-final was the latest twist: Argentina trailed England 1-0 with 35 minutes left before Enzo Fernández and a stoppage-time Martínez goal completed the comeback.
Lionel Messi is level with Kylian Mbappé at the top of the Golden Boot race on eight goals but has gone three matches without scoring. Sunday is his last chance to add to that tally and finish as outright top scorer.
