The top seed is chasing something no woman has done at Flushing Meadows in a long time: a third consecutive US Open title. Her fourth round was the clearest statement of the week, a 6-4, 6-3 win over Taylor Townsend in front of a crowd that badly wanted the American, and before that she had put away Kamilla Rakhimova 6-1, 6-1 and dropped just three games across two sets in the third round.
There is a ranking subplot worth knowing about. Sabalenka is world No. 1 heading into this quarter-final, but Elena Rybakina will take the top spot from her if the Kazakh reaches the semi-finals from the other half of the draw. Sabalenka cannot do anything about that except keep winning, and the tidiness of her four matches so far suggests she is treating this as business rather than a coronation.

Linda Noskova
Noskova is the reason this is a genuine quarter-final rather than a formality. The sixth seed won her maiden Grand Slam title at Wimbledon this summer, which reframes everything about how she should be priced in a match like this. She is no longer the talented Czech who occasionally ambushes a top seed; she is a major champion who has beaten the best players in the world on the biggest stage.
Her route here has been harder than Sabalenka’s. The fourth round against Marta Kostyuk went 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 and took six match points to finish, which is both a warning and a compliment: she was tight when it mattered, and she still got the job done. Before that she came through Ann Li in straight sets. This is her deepest run at the US Open by a distance, and there is no evidence yet of what she looks like in the second week here.

Noskova’s Wimbledon title came on grass; nothing about it tells us she has solved this specific problem on this specific surface.
Where the market can get stretched is in the set betting. Sabalenka in straight sets will be the popular ticket, and there is a case for it given how few games she has conceded. But Noskova has taken a set off top-ten opposition repeatedly this season, and her serve is good enough to hold a set together against anyone if she is landing first balls. The two-sets-to-one lines in both directions are where the value tends to hide in a match with this shape.
On total games: Sabalenka’s four matches have been short. She has not played a tiebreak. If you think Noskova makes this competitive at all, the over is the cleaner way to say so than backing the upset outright.
