Contenders to Watch
Jannik Sinner (defending champion, top seed)
The world No. 1 headlines the field and enters as the clear favourite to repeat. Sinner’s hard-court results over the last two seasons have been the standard the rest of the tour is chasing, and nothing about the Montreal field changes that math.
Novak Djokovic
The 24-time Grand Slam champion is on the entry list, though his participation remains uncertain given a lighter schedule late in his career. If he plays, he is a threat regardless of ranking; if he withdraws, it thins the very top of the draw further in Sinner’s favour.
Alexander Zverev
The reigning French Open champion is confirmed for Montreal and gives the field a second Grand Slam winner from this season, a real factor in a draw that is otherwise light at the very top behind Sinner.
Felix Auger-Aliassime (Canadian, home crowd)
Canada’s top-ranked man at world No. 4 gets to play a Masters 1000 in his home country, always a different atmosphere than a neutral-site event. Home support has pushed Canadian players deep in this tournament before.
Carlos Alcaraz (not attending)
The seven-time Grand Slam champion is skipping Montreal while recovering from a right wrist injury suffered in April that also cost him the French Open and Wimbledon. His absence is the single biggest thing thinning this year’s field at the top.
