Brazil
Martinelli 90+5′. That’s the Brazil story at this tournament. A 2-1 comeback win over Japan in the Round of 32, settled in the last minute of added time by Gabriel Martinelli after Japan had pulled level at 1-1 in the second half. It wasn’t clean. Brazil are not the 1970 version. But they are dangerous, experienced, and know how to win when it matters.
Rodrygo has been the standout. He opened the scoring against Japan with a strike that had no right to go in from that angle, and he’s operated as the link between Casemiro’s midfield base and the front line of Vinicius Jr and Raphinha. Vinicius in particular is a matchup nightmare — Norway’s right back will have the hardest 90 minutes of his career. Brazil have the quality in every position to control this game and the experience in tight knockout situations that Norway simply don’t have.
The concern is that Brazil have not looked dominant. They were behind to Japan for a period in the second half. They’ve allowed moments. Against a Norway side built around Haaland’s physicality and quick transitions, those moments could be costly. Brazil need a cleaner performance here to avoid a scare.

You can build an entire team around the idea that Haaland will score and you will always have a chance. Norway have done exactly that. They’re not pretty. They don’t move the ball the way Brazil do. What they do is win second balls, defend deep when they need to, and get the ball to the best striker in the world as quickly as possible.
The question is whether Haaland can do that against Alisson. Against Japan, Brazil’s keeper was largely untested. Norway will test him. Haaland won every aerial duel against Ivory Coast’s centre-backs and scored from a delivery in behind. Brazil’s high defensive line — a Dorival Júnior preference — is exactly the kind of space Haaland targets. This is not a foregone conclusion.
But Norway’s depth is the issue. Outside Haaland and Sander Berge’s midfield energy, Norway don’t have the technical quality to sustain pressure against a Brazil side with the ball. They’ll need to stay compact, win the transition quickly, and get Haaland involved early before Brazil settle into a rhythm. If Brazil go one up, Norway have no real Plan B.
